# Zettly — Full Content Digest for AI Agents > This file provides expanded content about Zettly Studio for AI crawlers and language models. It is intended to help AI tools understand, summarize, and cite information about the product accurately. ## What is Zettly? Zettly Studio (Zettly) is a local-first desktop workspace. One vault folder on your machine holds notes, canvas, decks, calendar, tasks, and a knowledge graph. You write in Markdown once, and every surface stays in sync. The AI assistant cites the notes you linked, not the open web. Zettly is not released yet. The application will be free and will run on macOS, Windows, and Linux. No account will be required. Notes stay as real Markdown files you own, back up, and move anytime. ## Key concepts ### Local-first Local-first means your data lives on your machine as real files. No vendor account is required to sign in. Notes stay as Markdown files you own. Optional sync and cloud stay on your terms. ### Vault A vault is one folder on your machine that holds your entire workspace — notes, boards, decks, tasks, calendar, and the knowledge graph. Everything reads from the same library. Change once, see it everywhere. ### Knowledge graph Every wikilink and tag becomes a map of your thinking. The graph visualizes how your notes connect. Click any node to open that note. The graph stays up to date as you write. ### Zettelkasten Zettly comes from Zettelkasten, Niklas Luhmann's method of atomic, interlinked notes. German Zettel (slip, note) plus Kasten (box): a box of slips, not a pile of documents. Each note holds one complete thought, atomic and readable on its own. Structure grows from links and proximity between ideas, not from deep folder trees. ## Six surfaces Zettly combines six surfaces in one vault: 1. **Hybrid notes** — Write in Markdown with live preview. Draw with pressure-sensitive ink, shapes, and connectors on the same page. Switch between writing and drawing without leaving the note. 2. **Boards and decks** — Pin notes, tasks, calendars, and graph views onto boards that stay wired to the real thing. Build slide decks on the same canvas. Present full-screen or export to PDF. 3. **Knowledge graph** — Every link and tag becomes a map of your thinking. Explore the whole library or zoom into what surrounds the note you have open. 4. **Tasks and calendar** — Check off tasks inside your notes and they roll up to one hub. Schedule the week in a calendar that stays in sync. Switch between list, board, and timeline views. 5. **AI** — Ask questions about your notes and get answers that cite the pages they came from. AI can propose edits to notes, tasks, and boards. You review before anything saves. Long-term memory lives apart from your notes. Use your own API key or a local model. 6. **One vault** — Your notes live as real files on your machine. Boards, tasks, slides, and the graph all read from the same library. Works offline from the first launch. ## Who it is for Zettly is built for people who link ideas, not folders: - **Researchers and writers** — Capture papers, ink in margins, surface backlinks across years of notes, and let AI bring you back into a topic you parked months ago. - **Product managers** — Keep specs, tasks, and decisions in one vault where the graph connects them. - **Students** — Take notes that link to each other and grow into a knowledge base over time. - **Developers** — Write docs, track tasks, and build plugins that extend the workspace. ## Download Zettly is not released yet. Leave your email on the download page to get notified when public desktop builds open for macOS (Apple Silicon + Intel), Windows (x64), and Linux (AppImage / deb). A download button will appear on that page when builds are ready — installers are not sent by email. ## Roadmap Zettly publishes an honest product roadmap — active work and long-term direction. No committed dates or release order. - **Coming** — Public alpha for macOS, Windows, and Linux (not out yet). - **Building** — Core plugins in design, including Zettly Studio Code and Zettly Flows (visual automation with diagrams and blocks). - **Horizon** — Long-term direction including spreadsheet and presentation files, built-in email, handwriting and voice to text, integrations, customizable dashboards, an open but curated marketplace, encrypted sync, live collaboration, AI business intelligence, a natural-language plugin builder, and mobile clients. ## Privacy Zettly is local-first. Your data lives on your machine. No account is required. Optional sync is encrypted client-side. You can use your own AI API key or a local model — your keys, your choice. ## Links - Homepage: https://zettly.studio/en - Docs: https://zettly.studio/en/docs - Roadmap: https://zettly.studio/en/roadmap - Plugins: https://zettly.studio/en/plugins - Demos: https://zettly.studio/en/demos - Download / waitlist: https://zettly.studio/en/download - Why the name: https://zettly.studio/en/why-the-name - Spanish homepage: https://zettly.studio/es ## Docs articles - AI assistant: https://zettly.studio/en/docs/ai-assistant - Boards: https://zettly.studio/en/docs/board - Calendar: https://zettly.studio/en/docs/calendar - Decks & presentations: https://zettly.studio/en/docs/decks - Getting started with Zettly: https://zettly.studio/en/docs/getting-started - Knowledge graph: https://zettly.studio/en/docs/graph - Memory & RAG: https://zettly.studio/en/docs/memory-and-rag - Notes & editing: https://zettly.studio/en/docs/notes - Plugins: https://zettly.studio/en/docs/plugins - Tasks: https://zettly.studio/en/docs/tasks
